Preschool providers from throughout the Somerville area are invited each spring to discuss best practices, share Kindergarten expectations and articulate ideas during the district’s “Kindergarten Summit.”

The program benefits early education for Somerville students, by bringing together their preschool providers. The session highlights effective components, as well as areas of weakness, in preschools. It also benefits the attendees, who earn a professional development certificate for their participation.

The Kindergarten Summit is designed to bridge boundaries and provide continuity of focus.
Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. One local preschool director, Kathleen Governale of the Giving Nest Preschool, said “I wish there were more school districts that would offer similar programs. It really is great to show the preschools in the area what your kindergarteners are doing, and to speak to the teachers.”
