For the first time, all schools and first responders in Hunterdon County are using the same language when dealing with an emergency. Through an initiative of the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office, all have adopted the Standard Response Protocol and Standard Reunification Method, developed by the “I Love U Guys” Foundation.

North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional High School District incorporated the protocols into staff training and all security drills. The two-school regional district serves grades 9-12, with students coming from a dozen communities. In the past, students would have to learn new school security protocols and language when they entered either North Hunterdon or Voorhees high schools. Now with all districts using the same protocol and language, students know what to expect during school security drills at the high school.

Since the two high schools are the largest in northern Hunterdon County, school officials are also working with elementary districts who want to use the high schools as reunification sites if needed.
