The state Legislature’s annual appropriations process is in full gear, with 20 public hearings on the proposed 2017-2018 state budget scheduled by the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee and the Assembly Budget Committee between now and May 17.

As the Legislature reviews the governor’s $35.5 billion budget proposal, NJSBA is focusing on education funding during meetings with legislators. The proposed budget would provide $13.83 billion in state aid to public education. Legislative leaders have indicated that they are considering adjustments to distribution of aid.

NJSBA has published a Statement on the FY2018 Proposed Budget, which addresses the impact of flat funding, underfunded state mandates, the SDA (Schools Development Authority) assessments, and other provisions.

School Board Notes will provide updates on the progress of the 2017-2018 state budget and school funding.
