New Jersey school board members are invited to attend the “Farm-to-School Summit” hosted by the New Jersey Farm-to-School Program of the state Division of Food and Nutrition in the New Jersey Department of Agriculture.

This event will show how Farm-to-School efforts, which enrich the connection that schools have with fresh, healthy food and local food producers, positively affect the learning environment in the state’s public schools. It will give board members the opportunity to learn from New Jersey superintendents, food service professionals, school garden educators, Garden State farmers, and representatives of the National School Lunch Program.

Speakers at the program will include New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Douglas Fisher; Patricia Dombroski, mid-Atlantic regional administrator, USDA Food and Nutrition Service; Sharon Seyler, NJSBA legislative advocate; Dr. Brian Repici, superintendent, Black Horse Pike school district; Dr. Scott McCartney, superintendent, Egg Harbor Township school district; Dr. Tina Powell, district director of math and science, Orange School District; and Sal Valenza, food service director, West New York school district.

The summit will be held March 16 from  9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Holiday Inn East Windsor, 399 Monmouth Rd, East Windsor.  There is no fee for this event. For more information, contact Beth H. Feehan, Farm-to-School program coordinator via email or by telephone at (609) 292-8747.
