Salary guides dictate how much school districts pay their most important resource, teachers. Guides directly affect a district’s ability to attract and retain quality staff. To help ensure districts are prepared, the New Jersey School Boards Association is offering Analyzing and Constructing Salary Guides training on Saturday, March 18 and Friday, March 31. Both programs will be offered from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Group headquarters in West Trenton. Registration and continental breakfast begin at 8:30 a.m.

The training is geared to the entire bargaining team, including labor attorneys and the business administrator. This hands-on program will help participants understand how a well-constructed salary guide is critical to help school boards operate efficiently within current financial constraints.

Participants will engage in a step-by-step analysis of salary guide construction. Attendees will understand how to recognize and address salary guide aberrations, and learn strategies to effectively negotiate changes in guides.

Analyzing and Constructing Salary Guides offers 4 NJSBA Board Member Academy credits. Application for 6.8 Continuing Legal Education Credits for New Jersey lawyers is pending. Application is also pending for 3.5 QPA credits for business administrators.

The member rate for the program is $149, or $699 for up to 5 attendees from the same district. The non-member rate is $298. The registration fee includes a continental breakfast, lunch, and program materials.

Registration Registration for Analyzing and Constructing Salary Guides may be done online, but only by the school business administrator. Business administrators who want to register officials from their districts should have a scanned purchase order ready to attach to the registration. For questions regarding registration, email the NJSBA Member Services Unit.
