On Jan. 10, Sustainable Jersey for Schools announced that 46 New Jersey schools and school districts received grants to fund a variety of projects, including vertical aeroponic tower gardens, agriculture and sustainability curriculum, student green team capacity building, an outdoor classroom, a healthy habits program, and enhanced recycling efforts.

The New Jersey School Boards Association was a founding partner of Sustainable Jersey for Schools, with The Sustainability Institute at The College of New Jersey. More than 292 districts and 724 schools are now participating in Sustainable Jersey for Schools.

Eleven $10,000 grants and 35 $2,000 grants were distributed; the grants were funded by the New Jersey Education Association.

“Congratulations to the grant recipients,” said Randall Solomon, executive director for Sustainable Jersey. “Sustainable Jersey for Schools aims to empower schools with the funding needed to implement important sustainability actions. We look forward to the completion of these projects and the ongoing efforts of these schools and school districts.”

Details on the projects that the grant funding will enable are online here.

The Sustainable Jersey for Schools grants are intended to help school districts and schools make progress toward a sustainable future in general, and specifically toward Sustainable Jersey for Schools certification.
