Susan L. Hudak, a member of the Linden Board of Education for 18 years, died on Sunday, Jan. 29. She was 59.

She was born in Summit, raised in Newark and Irvington, and had resided in Linden for the past 40 years.

On the Linden Board of Education, she served as president and vice president, and was the board’s representative to the Union County School Boards Association. In 2014, she earned the designation of Certificated Board Member from NJSBA’s Board Member Academy.

She was an active community volunteer, serving as the founder of For Our Children for Our Schools, a nonprofit which awarded scholarships to Linden students; an officer in PTAs in the Linden schools; and past-president of the Mother’s Club at Roselle Catholic. She was a former cub master of Pack 2 Cub Scouts at St. Hedwig Church in Elizabeth; a longtime member of the Linden Democratic Club; and a member of the Union County Democratic Committee.

Most recently, she worked as a clerk for the city of Linden. Previously, she was employed by the Suburban Heart Group in Union for 10 years and Union County Nephrology in Kenilworth for 20 years.

Susan Hudak was the wife of the Honorable John G. Hudak, J.S.C. She is also survived by her sons, John G. Hudak, Jr. and his wife Jill of Rockwall, Tx.; and Union County Freeholder Christopher Hudak and his wife Terri of Linden; and her daughter, Meghann Mohan and her husband Anthony of Rahway.

She was the daughter of Margaret (Segear) Lewis of Manahawkin and the late Edward Lewis; sister of Debbie Vitale and her husband Dr. Carl Vitale of Mountainside; and Steven Lewis and his wife Tracey of Manahawkin. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 3 at  10:30 a.m. at the Krowicki McCracken Funeral Home, 2124 E St. George Ave, Linden. In lieu of flowers, donations to For Our Children for Our Schools, 16 Robbinwood Terrace, Linden, N.J. 07036 are appreciated to establish a scholarship in her memory.
