As part of its commitment to helping schools across New Jersey reach their I-STEAM and sustainability goals, the New Jersey School Boards Association is offering a series of free programs this winter.

Green Building Tour, Jan. 16 NJSBA and the U.S. Green Buildings Council New Jersey (USGBC NJ) are hosting a Green Building Tour on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at PS 16, located at 11 22nd Avenue, Paterson, NJ, 07513. The tour is designed to feature green building best practices. The program, which runs from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. (registration begins at 4:30 p.m.), is free to New Jersey school leaders. NJSBA is offering one Board Member Academy credit and one Certified Green Leader credit. Register online.

Are You I-STEAM Ready? Putting it All Together, Jan. 18 NJSBA will host the third in a series of “Are You I-STEAM Ready?” workshops on Thursday, Jan. 18 at NJSBA headquarters, 413 W. State Street, Trenton, NJ 08618. The program is designed to engage attendees in project- and problem-based learning scenarios that lead into a larger entrepreneurial design challenges. Using the popular “STEAM TANK Challenge” as a model, which encourages student teams to brainstorm and create innovative projects, and present their inventions before a panel of judges, this exercise will demonstrate highly-effective practices that can be replicated in districts. The program, which runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (registration begins at 8:30 a.m.), is open to all N.J. public school leaders and district staff interested in learning more about I-STEAM education. NJSBA is offering four Board Member Academy credits and four Certified I-STEAM Leader credits. The program is sponsored by the Educational Leadership Foundation of New Jersey. Register online.

Sustainable Practices Working Session, March 15 NJSBA is offering members and school district personnel an opportunity to attend a one-day Sustainable Practices Working Session on Thursday, March 15 at NJSBA headquarters, 413 W. State Street, Trenton, NJ 08618. In this session, participants will review a Sustainability Wellness Check, which will be in alignment with the Sustainable Jersey for Schools certification program. The program begins at 9 a.m. with registration and a continental breakfast beginning at 8:30 a.m. NJSBA is offering four Board Member Academy credits and four Certified Green Leader credits. The program is sponsored by the Educational Leadership Foundation of New Jersey. Register online.
