The UCLA Center for Mental Health in Schools and Student/Learning Supports has made available a range of free resources to educators and school leaders. Topics covered include student engagement, mental health in schools, student attention and behavior problems, school-based crisis intervention, bullying prevention, and others. All resources are available online at www.smhp.psych.ucla.edu.

The center is directed by psychologists Dr. Howard S. Adelman and Dr. Linda Taylor; one focus of the center involves developing ways to break barriers to learning, teaching and re-engaging disconnected students. The organization’s mission is “to improve outcomes for students by helping districts and their schools enhance how they address barriers to learning and teaching and re-engage disconnected students.”

In addition to the online resources, the UCLA Center for Mental Health in Schools and Student/Learning Supports provides free technical assistance and coaching to state and local education agencies.

One of the group’s latest resources is a book written by co-directors Adelman and Taylor, Addressing Barriers to Learning: In the Classroom and Schoolwide. The book serves as an instructional guide to providing learning supports for students as well as professional development for staff. For more information on the center, contact Adelman or Taylor via email.
