Assistant Editor  The New Jersey School Boards Association is seeking a communications professional with superior writing and editing skills.  Reporting to the manager of communications/publications, the successful candidate will perform the following core functions: edit NJSBA’s weekly online news periodical; contribute to the Association’s award-winning publications program; develop speeches, scripts, testimony and presentations; and provide writing and editing support for NJSBA’s professional development and advocacy efforts.

The ideal candidate will have five years of experience in corporate, association or government communications and/or publications, or the equivalent. Knowledge of public education, school board governance and the legislative process is preferred.  Experience with Windows 10 and Microsoft 2016 applications is required.

Counsel NJSBA is seeking to fill the position of Counsel/Legal and Labor Relations, to provide training and information to local board of education members and charter school trustees, school attorneys and school administrators.

The successful candidate will provide direct assistance/information to school board attorneys, school administrators, school board members and Association staff; develop and coordinate the delivery of services and training; analyze decisions issued by the commissioner of education, the State Board of Education, School Ethics Commission and other administrative agencies as well as decisions of the federal and New Jersey courts; and prepare amicus review memoranda and amicus briefs as assigned.

Candidates must possess a Juris Doctor degree and be a member in good standing of the New Jersey Bar, admitted to practice before the N.J. federal district court and the courts of N.J.; litigation experience is preferred; develop and deliver effective presentations; have strong interpersonal and facilitation skills, including the ability to work with a variety of groups and individuals.  Experience with online research tools, e.g. Westlaw or Lexis-Nexis, Windows 10 and Microsoft 2016 applications required.
