The New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA) is hosting an all-day, interactive program dedicated to legal issues in leadership on Saturday, July 11, at the Crowne Plaza Princeton in Plainsboro. NJSBA’s “Summer Leadership Conference: Legal Issues,” offers 2 NJSBA Board Member Academy credits. The member rate for the program is $200 and includes all meals and program materials. The program runs from 8:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., with continental breakfast and registration beginning at 8 a.m.

About the Program Many of the decisions school leaders make have legal implications that impact districts for years. The NJSBA Summer Leadership Conference will offer up-to-date legal expertise and insight on the top issues affecting New Jersey education. Leading experts in education law and board governance will help attendees acquire practical methods to implement best practices, policies, programs and ideas.

The event will kick off with a general session on what board members need to know about educator evaluations, led by Paul Palek, AchieveNJ implementation manager for the New Jersey Department of Education. Following the morning session, six interactive breakout sessions will be offered to provide an in-depth look at top legal issues including student rights, superintendent contracts, technology, nepotism, and employee discipline and dismissal.

Experts will lead each session and discuss current challenges and solutions. Attendees may choose three breakout sessions from the six offerings.

Registration Information Registration may be done online, but only by the school business administrator. Business administrators should have a scanned purchase order ready to attach to the registration. For questions regarding registration, email the NJSBA Member Services Unit.
