The review of the Critical Policy Reference Manual (CPRM) was completed in December 2016 and all substantive updates have been posted on the Policy Update List.  These updates did not include posting simple term changes made to the policies and legal references.

In May 2016, the State Board of Education approved renaming the curriculum standards for preschool through grade 12 from the Core Curriculum Content Standards to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards.  This term change affects 32 policies in the CPRM.

We have heard from our members that the N. J. Department of Education, through the county offices, has expressed the expectation that local boards update their manuals to include the transition to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards.  To facilitate your board work, NJSBA Policy Services has posted a list of all the policies that mention the Core Curriculum Content Standards.  This list may be found at https://staging.njsba.org/services/policy/ under the Critical Policy Reference Manual subheading.

We encourage our members to review these policies and update them for the term change from the Core Curriculum Content Standard to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards.  If you have any questions please contact Jean Harkness, NJSBA policy consultant.
