On Thursday, May 25 the NJSBA and NJPTA will host the annual Legislative Day at the Patriots Theater at the War Memorial in Trenton. The program runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. (registration begins at 8 a.m.), and is an opportunity for board of education members and parents to share information, and address legislators about the challenges facing public schools in New Jersey.

The day will include a panel discussion with legislators moderated by Dr. Lawrence S. Feinsod, NJSBA executive director. Legislators include Senator Jeff Van Drew from Legislative District 1; Assemblywoman Patricia Egan Jones from Legislative District 5; Assemblyman Lou Greenwald from Legislative District 6; Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli from Legislative District 16; and Assemblywoman Mila Jasey from Legislative District 27.

The day will also include a panel discussion on the current school funding climate with Dr. G. Kennedy Greene, superintendent of the Newton School District, Dr. Jorden Schiff, superintendent of the Hillsborough School District, and Michael Vrancik, NJSBA director of governmental relations. There will be an opportunity for questions and answers following the discussion.

Additionally, Senate President Stephen Sweeney, will deliver the keynote address.

The NJSBA/NJPTA Legislative Day is open to school board members, administrators and PTA members. The event is free and registration is available online. Free parking is available at 1 Layfette Blvd., Trenton, in the parking garage adjacent to the War Memorial building.
