Candidates for school board seats, particularly if they are newcomers, are often unfamiliar with what serving on a school board actually entails. Each year, NJSBA steps in to provide candidates with an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of local boards of education.

This year, NJSBA is sponsoring three briefing sessions for candidates. For the convenience of attendees, they are being held in the northern, southern and central parts of the state. The meetings will cover issues such as school board policy, administration, finance and budgeting, collective bargaining and community relations, as well as relations among the board superintendent and staff. Candidates may attend any location that is convenient to them.

The northern region session is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 27 at Mountain Lakes High School, 96 Powerville Rd., Mountain Lakes; the central region session will be at Metuchen High School, 400 Grove Ave., Metuchen, on Tuesday, Oct. 4; and the southern region session will be held Wednesday, Oct. 5 at Hammonton High School, 566 Old Forks Rd., Hammonton. Register now!

This program is available at no cost to the candidates or their districts. All programs run from 7 – 9 p.m. with registration and light refreshments at 6:30 p.m.
