Noting that “there is an opportunity to increase awareness and promote the value of military service as an alternative educational opportunity and career avenue throughout New Jersey high schools,” Gov. Chris Christie and Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno on Aug. 24 proclaimed September 2016 as “Military Opportunities Month.”

The leaders of New Jersey’s major educational organizations (NJSBA, the New Jersey Association of School Administrators; the New Jersey Education Association; the New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association; the New Jersey Association of School Business Officials, and the New Jersey PTA) recently sent a letter to school districts urging public schools to schedule a Military Opportunities Day this fall. The goal is to provide high school juniors and seniors with information about the educational and career opportunities available through the U.S. military.
