The latest issue of School Leader magazine features an interview with Dan Sinclair, who took office as NJSBA president in May. Sinclair talks about his own school board service, about the challenges that boards face, and about his vision for the Association.

The magazine also offers a preview of the exciting changes planned for Workshop this year, which will include an additional day of training for both new and veteran board members. The issue also includes details on the winning programs in the 2017 Innovations in Special Education competition.

Back-to-School Special Section The 2017-2018 school year will bring some changes to New Jersey’s public schools, including revised academic standards, changes in regulations covering teacher preparation, new regulations covering the education of homeless students and new school security requirements. School Leader’s special Back to School section provides an overview of the changes. The special section also has an article on NJSBA’s collaboration with rock musician Steven Van Zandt’s Rock and Roll Forever Foundation, which provides free access to arts-based, STEAM-aligned professional development and educational materials, and a piece on New Jersey boards of education which have conducted student “mock” school boards.

School Leader magazine is published six times a year, and is mailed to all school board members; it is available online here.
