TRENTON, May 4, 2018—The New Jersey School Boards Association today affirmed its support of the Paterson Board of Education as the city’s school district enters local control.
On May 2, the New Jersey State Board of Education voted to end state operation of the district and establish a process to transition the Paterson Public Schools to local control. Paterson has been under state intervention since 1991. The school district educates more than 25,000 students.
“NJSBA commends the work of the local school board and administrative leadership on achieving this milestone,” said Dr. Lawrence S. Feinsod, NJSBA executive director. “Our Association has provided services to the school district while it has been under state operation. We look forward to assisting the Paterson Board of Education as it completes the transition to local control.”
