To help the state’s public schools access non-tax funding, the New Jersey School Boards Association offers a Grant Support Services Program through the Grants Office. New Jersey districts are encouraged to apply for the following new grants.

New Grants Available The  “Comprehensive School Safety Initiative Grant” recently opened and has a deadline of June 12, 2015.

This program could support technology and related infrastructure in meeting the programmatic goals related to one of the following four categories:

  1. Developing knowledge about what works to make schools safe;
  2. Understanding the causes and consequences of school violence;
  3. Short term studies on school safety, and
  4. Developing and evaluating comprehensive school safety frameworks.

This program is primarily concentrated on funding research partnerships that will produce practical knowledge to improve school safety across the nation. Several awards will be granted in amounts as high as $7,500,000 depending on the category.

The  “YouthBuild” grant (from the U.S. Department of Labor) recently opened and has a deadline of June 5, 2015.

This program could support technology and related infrastructure in meeting programmatic goals related to community-based alternative education for youths, ages 16-24, who are high school dropouts, adjudicated, aging out of foster care, have disabilities, are homeless, or are otherwise disadvantaged.

This program is primarily concentrated on funding project-based learning and occupational skills building initiatives (particularly within construction) so that these students can obtain a GED and experience within a career pathway.

Approximately 76 awards will be granted in amounts ranging from $700,000 to $1,100,000. A 25 percent cost-match is required.
