On Friday, June 3, NJSBA will host an informative day of training focused on the security and safety of schools at the Conference Center at Mercer, at 1200 Old Trenton Road, West Windsor.

The conference will feature breakout sessions covering a wide variety of school safety topics, including creating long-term school security plans; communication technology available for school safety; best practices to enable schools to respond quickly and efficiently to emergency situations; teen driver safety; designing and implementing school security solutions; incident prevention and response; and partnerships in school safety that use the Department of Homeland Security model of preparedness, prevention/mitigation, and response and recovery.

The School Security and Student Safety Conference will also include a panel discussion presented by the New Jersey Department of Education’s Office of School Preparedness and Emergency Planning; a representative of municipal government; a school board representative; and federal, state and local law enforcement. The program will also have an interactive networking lunch, offering an opportunity to participate in roundtable discussions on hot topics in school security.

Special guests slated to appear at the conference include New Jersey Commissioner of Education David Hespe; Assemblyman Patrick Diegnan, chair, Assembly Education Committee; Dr. Lawrence Feinsod, executive director, NJSBA; Donald Webster Jr., president, NJSBA; and Eric Tysarczyk, Director of Policy and Planning, N.J. Office of Homeland Security.

The program runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with continental breakfast and registration starting at 8:30 a.m. This program offers four Board Member Academy credits.

Registration Information Member registration may be completed online, but only by the school business administrator, who must attach a scanned copy of the purchase order with the registration. School board members and other district staff that have previously been reported to NJSBA in the district census form may attend.

Additional district staff members are welcome to register online through Eventbrite using a credit card. (Staff should check with the school business administrator as to local district policy regarding reimbursement.)

Cost The registration fee for members is $99 per person and includes a continental breakfast, lunch and program materials.

Who Should Attend? In addition to school board members, business administrators, and superintendents, all district staff members who play a role in school safety including, but not limited to, teachers, school resource officers, school security guards, facilities managers will take away valuable information on this critical issue. Parents also also encouraged to attend.
