As students get ready for another school year, the New Jersey Department of Education issued a memorandum reminding districts of their responsibilities for student safety in the summer heat. In the August 17 memo, the NJDOE stressed the need to ensure, at all times, the health, safety, and well-being of all students as they engage in athletic and other outdoor extracurricular activities. The NJDOE directs districts to a variety of resources and guidance provided by the N.J. State Interscholastic Athletic Association. As part of its materials, the NJSIAA directs that its heat and humidity policies be followed by all coaches and athletic trainers not only for practices, but also games. For further information, please go to the NJSIAA’s website, or contact the NJSIAA at (609) 259-2776.

PARCC Reports Sent to Districts The NJDOE also issued a memo informing districts that all paper Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) and Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM) Individual Student Reports (ISRs) have been distributed to district central offices as of Aug. 17. Pursuant to N.J.A.C. 6A:8-4.3(a), chief school administrators must report preliminary and final results of annual assessments to district boards of education within 60 days of receipt of information from the department.  The memo also contains resources to assist school boards in communicating the results to parents.
