The New Jersey School Board Association has updated the following model policies and legal references in the Critical Policy Reference Manual (CPRM).

  • 5141.8 Concussion and Sports Head Injury: This policy was updated to specifically mention cheerleaders with student-athletes. NJSBA recognizes that cheerleading is a highly athletic activity, however to be consistent with the letter of the law the policy was amended. In addition, some of the language in the policy was consolidated to make the policy shorter and clearer.
  • 6114 Emergency and Disaster Preparedness: A section was added to 6114 Emergency and Disaster Preparedness on the School Safety and Security Plan that details the requirements of this regularly reviewed document. Although we mention the plan in the policy, more detail was added to give board members a better understanding of the required components of the School Safety and Security Plan.
  • 6173 Home Instruction: This policy was updated to reflect the revisions of N.J.A.C. 6A:16-10.1 and -10.2 adopted by the DOE in March 2014. Most notably, school districts now have the option to deliver home or out-of-school instruction through online educational programs.
  • 7110 Long Range Facilities Plan: For many years 7110 has been a very general summary of the Long Range Facilities Plan (LRFP). Again, this plan is regularly reviewed and amended so more detail was added to give board members a better understanding of the required components.

The legal references for all these policies were updated as well; districts should include the changes in the policy legal reference section of their policy manual.
