NJSBA has updated the following model policies and legal references:

4115 Supervision

This policy was updated to reflect that professional development must be aligned with the Professional Standards for Teachers and the Standards for Professional Learning. In addition, the Core Curriculum Content Standards were changed to the current title: the New Jersey Student Learning Standards. This policy is no longer monitored and there is no requirement in law to distribute the policy.

4116 Evaluation of Teaching Staff Members (policy and regulation)

This policy and regulation were overhauled with changes throughout to align with the current code. There were changes in 2017 to the observation requirements that are now reflected in the policy and regulation. Convening a district evaluation advisory committee is optional beginning the 2017-2018 school year. Districts who will not be convening this committee should omit this section of the policy.

This update is optional for charter schools if your charter school conducts their teacher evaluation process according to the rules for school districts. This policy and regulation are available upon request by contacting Jean Harkness, policy consultant, via email.

4131/4131.1 Staff Development, In-service Education, Visitation, Conferences (policy and exhibit)

This policy was reviewed and there were minor changes throughout. Specifically, the Oct. 31 deadline for the development of each school leader’s professional development plan and the Oct. 1 deadline for each teacher’s professional development plan were added. An exhibit is also provided that lists the Standards for Professional Learning (N.J.A.C. 6A:9C-3.3); Professional Standards for Teachers (N.J.A.C. 6A:9-3.3); and Professional Standards for School Leaders (N.J.A.C. 6A:9-3.4 from the National Policy Board for Educational Administrators.)
