The STEAM Tank Challenge, created and sponsored by the New Jersey School Boards Association and the U.S. Army, encourages students in the areas of STEAM – science, technology, engineering, the arts and math.

The highly successful program, launched at Workshop 2016, pits student teams in a contest modeled after the “Shark Tank” television show. Teams create innovative projects, and present their inventions before a judging panel of entrepreneurs, business leaders and inventors.

STEAM Tank 2018 will include three regional competitions, in which 15 elementary school teams, 15 middle school teams, and 15 high school teams will face off in each region. Dates and locations of the regional competitions are as follows:

Southern Region  March 23 at the U.S. Army Reserve Center, 390 S Woodbury Turnersville Road, Blackwood, NJ 08012

Central Region March 16 at Camp Evans, 2201 Marconi Road, Belmar, NJ 07719

Northern Region April 14 at the NJIT Campus Center Atrium, 1982, 150 Bleeker St., Newark, NJ 07102

Six winners from each bracket in each region — 54 in total — will advance to compete at the STEAM Tank Challenge finals on Oct. 23 and 24, during the Workshop 2018 conference at the Atlantic City Convention Center.

Application Process Entries for the 2018 competition are now being accepted online via the STEAM Tank Regional Application. The deadline for receiving completed application forms is Friday, Feb. 9, 2018.

Those submitting proposals will be notified of the NJSBA and the U.S. Army’s decision by Feb. 16, 2018. There is a $99 non-refundable entrance fee per team for teams advancing to the regional finals.
