NJSBA has updated policy 6145.1/6145.2, Intramural and Interscholastic Competition, to include a section titled Use and Misuse of Opioid Drugs.

N.J.S.A. 18A:40-41.10 requires that school districts, charter schools or nonpublic schools that participate in an interscholastic sports program or cheerleading program distribute annually the educational fact sheet developed by the Commissioner of Education in consultation with the Commissioner of Health that provides information concerning the use and misuse of opioid drugs, in the event that a student-athlete or cheerleader is prescribed an opioid for a sports-related injury. The fact sheet must be distributed to the parents or guardians of student-athletes and cheerleader. The district/school must also obtain a signed acknowledgment of the receipt of the fact sheet by the student-athlete or cheerleader and his or her parent or guardian.

The New Jersey Department of Education has provided a template of the fact sheet sign-off. This form is included in the Critical Policy Reference Manual (CPRM) as an exhibit at file code 6145.1/6145.2. The fact sheet may be found online.

NJSBA has also updated policy 2131, Chief School Administrator. The two bullet lists were revised and restructured to be more consistent with the current code (N.J.A.C. 6A:10-8.1).
