Gov. Chris Christie recognized the contributions of the state’s public school board members by proclaiming January 2018 “School Board Recognition Month.”

In the proclamation, signed Jan. 5, Christie recognized the nearly 5,000 public school board members who “devote countless hours, without remuneration, to the oversight of school district operations.” The state’s public schools serve nearly 1.4 million children in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.

“Local boards of education have contributed to New Jersey being among the leading states in academic achievement, as measured by the National Assessment of Education Progress scores, and the preparation for college through Advanced Placement offerings and SAT assessments,” he said.

“By making meaningful contributions to public education, the dedicated members of local school boards have greatly enhanced the quality of life in our state,” the governor continued.
