The deadline for prospective school board candidates for the November annual school election to submit nominating petitions is less than one week away. NJSBA reminds prospective candidates that petitions for that election are due to the county clerk by 4 p.m. on Monday, July 30.

School board secretaries and anyone interested in board member candidacy can find sample nominating petitions and information on candidacy at staging.njsba.org/candidacy.

Ten Things School Board Candidates Should Know  NJSBA’s video series,  “Ten Things Every School Board Candidate Should Know before Taking Office,” contains important information for school board candidates—and prospective candidates.

Topics include the Board Member Code of Ethics, criminal history record checks for newly elected board members, the Sunshine Law, the school board’s role as a policy-making body, mandated training, and professional development.

Experts from NJSBA’s Legal and Labor Relations Services Department delve into these and other issues with Ray Pinney, host of “Education Matters.” The videos are available here.
