Workshop is an ideal opportunity for school leaders to refresh their knowledge about vital topics in education and learn valuable strategies for improving the quality and efficiency of their local district. This year, Workshop will offer even more training opportunities as it expands to a four-day conference starting Monday, Oct. 23 and going through Thursday, Oct. 26. Monday training will include a special Leadership Training Track, geared toward school board presidents and vice presidents, and any board member interested in building their leadership skills.

Additionally, Monday will include a special presentation of Governance I: New Board Member Orientation (separate registration required by school business administrator), and training on school law, labor relations, student achievement, sustainability and more. Review the full Monday training line-up on the Workshop 2017 online schedule.

Attendees may also stop by the County Chat Room from 2 – 4:30 p.m. in room 303 to network with members from their counties and from across the state. Each county will have a “Solutions Table” manned by county officers and NJSBA staff. The tables offer an opportunity to network with school leaders and to ask questions and discuss education issues.

Shuttle service will be available on Monday from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m., so that attendees may park at their hotels and take the shuttle over to the Convention Center for training.

Expanded Travel Waiver The New Jersey Department of Education has expanded the travel waiver to accommodate the additional day of training. The adjusted waiver allows school districts to reimburse eligible board members and staff for overnight accommodations for a maximum of three, rather than two, nights. Individuals whose one-way commute to the Atlantic City Convention Center exceeds 50 miles may obtain reimbursement from their school district, charter school, or renaissance school project for overnight lodging for Oct. 23, 24, and 25.

Workshop Registration/Pricing/Housing The Workshop group registration rate is $1,500, and has been expanded to cover 18 team members (up from 14 team members) including: school board members, business administrator, superintendent, facilities managers, curriculum professionals, IT staff, and other district professionals. The individual member rate is $300 per person. Registration is available online, and must be handled by the school business administrator. A block of hotel rooms have been secured at a number of hotels for Workshop 2017 attendees. Housing information is listed on the Workshop website.
