Pursuant to S-868/A-2030 enacted on May 30, which allows board of education candidates to circulate a nominating petition jointly and to be bracketed together on the ballot, NJSBA has posted updated sample petitions to its candidate kit available online at staging.njsba.org/candidacy. There are two sample petitions: one for an individual filing and one for joint filing.

This year’s November Annual School Election will be held November 6, 2018. The deadline for candidates to submit their nominating petition to the county clerk is 4 p.m. July 30, 2018.

School board secretaries and residents interested in board member candidacy can download the free kit at staging.njsba.org/candidacy.

Board candidates are reminded that some county boards of elections require the use of a county-specific nominating petition and other forms. They should contact their county clerk for details concerning the proper form(s) to use for candidacy in the November 2018 elections.
