The LEE Group – a statewide organization dedicated to striving for the best in education for New Jersey’s 1.4 million public school students – met recently to discuss topics of importance to the state’s public schools.

The name “LEE” stands for “leadership for excellence in education,” and the organization is made up of representatives from the state’s major educational organizations: the New Jersey Association of School Administrators; the New Jersey Association of School Business Officials; the New Jersey Education Association; the New Jersey State Parent-Teachers Association; the New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association: and the New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA). State Acting Commissioner of Education Kimberley Harrington also attended the meeting, which was held in Trenton on March 16.

“The LEE Group is an extremely important forum for all the major education associations to interact and exchange concerns and opinions,” said NJSBA Executive Director Dr. Lawrence S. Feinsod. He represented NJSBA at the meeting along with NJSBA President Donald Webster Jr.

“The group also provides an opportunity to seek common ground,” Feinsod said.

Along with discussing New Jersey state school aid and the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), members heard from environmental hygienist Diana Crowder about an ongoing issue, mercury in flooring material.

The meeting took place at NJASA headquarters. The next LEE Group meeting will be in May.
