More than two dozen school board members and school administrators learned about race and gender bias, and how they affect learning and student achievement, at the NJSBA program, “The Hidden Bias Gap – Gender, Race and Zip Code.” NJSBA Educator-in-Residence Vincent DeLucia and two North Brunswick school administrators, Dr. Kayne Ellis, supervisor of English at North Brunswick Township High School; and Sidney Dawson, assistant principal of Linwood Middle School; were presenters at the session, which was held at Middlesex County College in Edison. The program was the first in a series of programs exploring “Equity and Excellence,” that will be offered by NJSBA. The next, to be held in May, will address students and the stress to achieve.
