ciakKevin Ciak, a board member from Sayreville and a former president of the New Jersey School Boards Association, was elected secretary/treasurer of the National School Boards Association on March 20 at that organization’s Delegate Assembly.

Traditionally, the NSBA secretary/treasurer moves on to become the NSBA’s president-elect, and then its president. If Ciak becomes NSBA president in 2017, as expected, he would be the first president from New Jersey since Ruth Mancuso from 1967 to 1968. Ciak has served as NSBA northeast region delegate since 2010.

First elected to the Sayreville board at the age of 19, Ciak served as NJSBA president from 2006 to 2008 and as immediate past president from 2008 to 2010. He was formerly NJSBA vice president for county activities and vice president for legislation/resolutions. Ciak has earned Master Board Member certification through the NJSBA Board Member Academy, and in 2013, he was named New Jersey School Board Member of the Year.

The National School Boards Association represents state associations of school boards and their member districts across the United States. NSBA represents the school board perspective before federal government agencies and national organizations and provides vital information and services to state associations of school boards.
