njsbanewsA meeting of NJSBA’s Board of Directors took place on Friday, Mar. 27, at NJSBA headquarters in Trenton. The agenda included the following:

  • Recognized the following new NJSBA officers: Donald Webster, president; Daniel Sinclair,vice president for county activities; Michael McClure, vice president for finance; Jason Jones, vice president for legislation/resolutions; and John Bulina, immediate past president.
  • Recognized the following members who have been elected to move from the alternate member position to the member position: Thomas Kasper, representing Somerset County and Gus Rutledge, representing Warren County. Also recognized the following new alternate members: Bruce Young, representing Bergen County and Karen Vick, representing Gloucester County.
  • Administered the Oath of Office to all officers, members and alternates.
  • Approved amendments to General Operations Manual recommended by the 2015 Governance Task Force to move officer elections from January to May and hold the election going forward in odd numbered years, rather than even numbered years, as currently required.
  • Approved the NJSBA 2015-2016 budget.
  • Approved amendments to Governance Operations Manual concerning the alteration of the Association holiday calendar under certain circumstances.
  • Approved open session minutes of the Nov. 14, 2014 meeting.
  • Approved the NJSBA Legislative Committee appointments.
  • Approved the NJSBA 2015 Resolutions Subcommittee appointments.
  • Received reports from the Vice President for County Activities, Vice President for Finance, and Vice President for Legislation/Resolutions.
  • Received a report from the executive director on NJSBA activities, including the creation of a staff committee to analyze the report of the New Jersey Pension and Health Benefit Study Commission; continuing efforts to build partnerships with state leaders;  the School District Labor-Management Collaboration project, an effort resulting from research by Dr. Saul Rubinstein of  the Rutgers University School of Management and Labor Relations showing a strong link between student achievement and the degree of collaboration between teachers and school leaders; building alternative revenue sources to lesson reliance on NJSBA membership dues; Sustainable Jersey for Schools certification program; staff task force on the value of NJSBA services; and, the election of Kevin Ciak, NJSBA past president, as secretary treasurer of the National School Boards Association.
  • Received a Workshop 2015 update.
  • Discussed experiences with the first round of PARCC testing.
  • Information items included written reports of the President, Vice President for County Activities, the Vice President for Finance, Vice President for Legislation/Resolutions and the Immediate Past President; 2015 Governance Task Force meeting minutes; Associations financials; Board of Directors Handbook; Board of Directors list; GO/8462R Nominating Committee process; DA Resolutions update; Governance Calendar; legal case summary; School Board Recognition Month Proclamation; and, PARCC FAQ/Parent’s Letter.
