As part of its commitment to helping schools across New Jersey reach their I-STEAM goals, the New Jersey School Boards Association is hosting its third and final meeting in a series of “Are You I-STEAM Ready?” training programs.
The program, designed to help school districts enrich student learning in the areas of integrative science, technology, engineering, the arts and math, will take place on Thursday, June 21, and will run from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (registration begins at 8:30 a.m.) at the historic Camp Evans in Wall Township.
“Are You I-STEAM Ready?” Makerspaces will help school leaders understand how much “makerspace” classrooms cost, what equipment should be in a makerspace, what students will be learning, and the impact that integrative STEAM environments have on students’ problem solving.
The program is offered in collaboration with practitioners and key leadership from the N.J. Technology Engineering Educators Association (NJTEEA) and STEM/I-STEAM specialists from NJSBA, the N.J. Department of Education, the U.S. Army, the Rock and Roll Forever Foundation, Arts Ed NJ, Young Audiences – NJ Arts for Learning, and the Hopatcong school district. The day will include hands-on strategies that compare after-school enrichment vs. classroom environments, and discuss how to navigate a classroom utilizing I-STEAM principles with instructors not only certified in technology and engineering, but also in general education subjects.
The session is free to attendees and includes a continental breakfast, lunch and program materials. Pre-registration is required and seats are limited. The “Are You I-STEAM Ready?” programs are sponsored by the Educational Leadership Foundation of New Jersey, and are offered at no cost to New Jersey school leaders.
This program is open to all N.J. public school leaders and district staff interested in learning more about I-STEAM education and makerspaces. School officials may register themselves online for this program.
