The New Jersey School Boards Association is presenting two upcoming programs to help provide critical information on school law.

NJSBA will host its annual Spring School Law Forum on Wednesday, June 14 at the New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association, 12 Centre Dr., Monroe Township. The program will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with registration and continental breakfast beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Practicing school board attorneys will share research and their own experiences in addressing the latest court decisions, administrative rulings, statutes, and code that affect public education and school district governance.

The member rate for the program is $299 and the non-member rate is $598. The registration fee includes a continental breakfast and lunch.

Registration for board members may be done online, but only by the school business administrator. Business administrators who want to register officials from their districts should have a scanned purchase order ready to attach to the registration. AMPSA members may also register online through their NJSBA account and pay by credit card.

Professional Development Credit The Spring School Law Forum offers 4 Board Member Academy credits and 7.5 CLE pending credits for New Jersey lawyers, including 1.2 for ethics.

Fundamentals of School Law will take place on Wednesday, June 21, at the NJSBA headquarters, 413 W. State Street, Trenton. The program will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with registration and continental breakfast beginning at 8:30 a.m.

NJSBA’s staff attorneys will share their extensive knowledge of New Jersey public education law as it relates to board of education operations. Learn about the statutes, regulations and case law decisions that impact public schools.

Topics for the Fundamentals of School Law include:

  • The Open Public Meetings and the Open Public Records acts
  • Ethics for board members and other school officials
  • Labor relations for board attorneys
  • Tenure and seniority
