The NJSBA Board of Directors met on Friday, November 18, 2016, at the Association’s headquarters in Trenton. The agenda included the following:
- Introduction of the new NJSBA Director of Finance, John Faford.
- Heard a report on the NJSBA 2015-2016 audit from Robert Bulvilla, partner, Suplee Clooney, NJSBA auditors.
- Approved the 2015-2016 NJSBA audit.
- Approved the open session minutes of the Sept. 30, 2016 meeting.
- Approved the Legislative Committee appointments.
- Approved submission of a resolution to the NSBA Delegate Assembly calling for federal support of iSTEAM initiatives.
- Approved the at-large appointments to the Nominating Committee.
- Received an update from the executive director on the progress of the strategic plan, which included an update on our relationship with the New Jersey Department of Education and the State Board of Education; the roll-out of the NJSBA Accountability Regulations Task Force report, which includes 63 recommendations; the relationship NJSBA is building with the New Jersey League of Municipalities, which included a session on school district-municipal cooperation at both Workshop 2016 and the League’s convention; the continuing successful relationship with Sustainable Jersey for Schools (this week the membership in Sustainable Jersey for Schools reached 554 schools in 225 school districts, representing 40 percent of state operating districts); and NJSBA’s co-sponsored Environmental Sustainability Symposium for High School Students with Rider University, which included a Green STEAM Tank Challenge, replicating the very successful feature offered at Workshop 2016.
- The advocacy update included a report on the three school funding proposals.
- The annual Workshop debriefing focused on NJSBA exceeding all financial, attendance, exhibitor and sponsor goals. Members provided feedback on what they thought worked and what needed improvement.
- Received an update on activities from the NJSBA president, vice president for county activities, vice president for finance, and immediate past president.
- Recognized Rachel Capizzi, a new Board of Directors alternate member representing Passaic County.
- Information items included Association financials, Delegate Assembly update, legal case summary, NJSBA president’s and officers’ reports, and resolutions submitted to the National School Boards Association Delegate Assembly.
