Governor-elect Philip D. Murphy has named NJSBA Executive Director Dr. Lawrence S. Feinsod and NJSBA Director of Governmental Relations Michael Vrancik to his “Transition2018” committee, placing them on the team that will help the new administration prepare to take office in two months.
The NJSBA representatives will serve on the “Education, Access, and Opportunity” committee.
Dr. Feinsod announced the appointments at the Nov. 18 meeting of the NJSBA Delegate Assembly. He indicated that the appointments to the Transition2018 Committee signify the importance of having a “seat at the table” where decisions are made that affect public schools.
“Mike and I are honored to serve on this impactful committee,” Dr. Feinsod said. “We look forward to being part of the effort to lay the groundwork for public schools under the administration of our new governor.”
Governor-elect Murphy said New Jersey “needs an administration ready to hit the ground running in January.
“Through the work of the transition committees my administration will not take office blind to the challenges and opportunities before us,” Murphy said. “I am grateful to everyone who accepted the call to serve our transition. From analyzing and prescribing policy to taking a fresh look at the basic organization of government, these committees have a lot of work to do. I am confident they will put my administration in a position to begin delivering results for the people of New Jersey from day one.”
The committees are comprised of numerous policy experts and outside leaders in their respective fields, and each committee will have legal counsel to support their efforts. The committees will meet throughout the state over the course of the next two months. They will then submit reports and recommendations to the Governor-elect and his leadership team prior to the inauguration that will inform the new administration’s legislative and regulatory agenda.
The Education, Access and Opportunity committee also includes representatives of public school districts; institutes of higher education; the New Jersey Parent-Teacher Association; and other education organizations.
