It’s not too late to develop a successful grant proposal for a sustainability grant. Applications are due Oct. 28, 2016 for the Sustainable Jersey for Schools Small Grant program, which provides opportunities for public schools and school districts to implement sustainability projects.

The online application is straightforward, and the odds of eligible applications being awarded a grant are very good compared to other grant programs, according to Sustainable Jersey for Schools.

Principal Paula Junker at Galloway Township Middle School had this to say about a grant the school received in 2015: “Galloway Township Middle School is overjoyed to continue their journey with the Sustainable Jersey for Schools program. This amazing program has already had a monumental impact on our school climate and has encouraged our students to develop innovative methods to reduce waste while adding beauty to our school environment. Being awarded this grant provided our students the opportunity to continue their work in ‘Mr. B’s Backyard Classroom,’ with the abundance of learning opportunities that take place in our school’s hands-on, outdoor classroom. Support from Sustainable Jersey for Schools enabled us to continue to expand this program to include the entire seventh grade science classes, as well as offer our Nature Fest to three schools and our Galloway Township community.”

Two grant opportunities are now open through two different funders:

$180,000 in Funding for Sustainable School and District Projects: This grant cycle, funded by New Jersey Education Association (NJEA), will award: 10 $10,000 grants to school districts or schools and 40 $2,000 grants to support school green teams. The $2,000 grants can be used for school green team expenses and this funding does not have to be for project specific activities. Applicants must be registered in the Sustainable Jersey for Schools program. Increase your chances of being awarded a grant by applying for both a $10,000 and $2,000 grant. More information about the grant program and details on how to apply are available online.

$150,000 in Funding for School District Energy Projects: For this grant cycle, funded by the Gardinier Environmental Fund, Sustainable Jersey is offering $30,000 and $10,000 grants. This grant money is available to fund energy projects focused on energy conservation, efficiency and renewable energy. Grant proposals are being accepted from municipalities and school districts registered with Sustainable Jersey.
