The September/October 2016 edition of School Leader is available online, and has been mailed to all school board members. The latest edition of NJSBA’s flagship magazine features a special section on sustainability and wellness. The section includes articles on the connection between sustainability and student wellness, school nutrition, and an update on the Sustainable Jersey for Schools program.
The issue also contains feature articles on strategies for dealing with declining school enrollment, a problem being faced by many New Jersey districts, as well as one on “restorative justice,” a student discipline approach that has been used to stem high rates of suspensions and expulsions. The Policy Update column highlights narcotic abuse in schools, and provides a sample policy addressing the abuse and the use of emergency antidotes in schools. The Labor Lookout column provides details of recent contract settlements in 24 New Jersey school districts.
