The New Jersey School Boards Association recently announced that Kathy Helewa has joined the staff as a field service representative. She will provide services, programs and training to meet the needs of local school boards in Passaic, Sussex and Warren counties.

“We welcome Kathy to the NJSBA staff,” said Dr. Lawrence S. Feinsod, executive director. “She is bright, articulate and extremely dedicated to public education. Her wealth of experience as a board member and in-depth knowledge of public education will certainly benefit our members. I know that Kathy will represent the Association in an exemplary manner.”

Kathy served on the Warren Township Board of Education in Somerset County. During her tenure, she served as board vice president, as chair of the policy and communications committees, and as a member of the curriculum, negotiations and strategic plan branding committees.

During her time as a board member, Kathy has been active in NJSBA, serving on the Legislative Committee, the School Finance Committee, and as her district’s representative to the Delegate Assembly. She was also a speaker at NJSBA’s New Board Member Orientation weekend program. Kathy earned the designation of Certificated Board Member through NJSBA’s Board Member Academy training program in 2016.

Kathy has also been active in her community as a Girl Scout leader and a PTO volunteer.

Previously, Kathy worked in the banking industry. She is a graduate of Montclair State University, and currently resides in Warren Township with her husband and two daughters.
