STEAM TANK Challenge

The STEAM Tank Challenge, created and sponsored by NJSBA and the U.S. Army, encourages students in the areas of STEAM – science, technology, engineering, the arts and math. Launched at Workshop 2016, the STEAM Tank Challenge pits student teams against each other in a contest modeled after the “Shark Tank” television show. Teams brainstorm and create innovative projects, and present their inventions before a judging panel of entrepreneurs, business and education leaders.

The best concepts were selected to compete  in three regional competitions. In each region, 15 elementary school (grades K-6), 15 middle school (grades 7-8), and 15 high school (grades 9-12) teams faced off against each other.

Once a team, consisting of two to five students, submits an application and their concept is accepted, the teacher/team leader receives access to the STEAM Tank playbook, which contains detailed information for the teams and strategies for the challenge.

Winners from each grade bracket in each region advanced to compete at the STEAM Tank finals to be held October 23rd and 24th during the Annual Workshop conference at the Atlantic City Convention Center. Winners will be announced at the NJEA Convention in November, 2018.

There are three levels for STEAM Tank – elementary, middle and high school. Each level has a first ($2,500), second ($1,500), and third ($1,000) place prize.
