The New Jersey Department of Education last week asked the state’s education organizations to notify their members about the opportunity to participate in the upcoming review of New Jersey’s curriculum standards through one of three content subcommittees: K-2; grades 3-12 English language arts, and grades 3-12 mathematics.

The project is part of Gov. Chris Christie’s directive in May to review New Jersey’s Core Curriculum Content Standards. The three-content subcommittees will review each set of standards in-depth and propose revisions to the main Standards Review Committee. In turn, the Standards Review Committee will make a final recommendation to the State Board of Education for its consideration in January 2016. (NJSBA will be represented on the main Standards Review Committee.)

Interested educators and curriculum specialists may nominate themselves for participation on the content subcommittees. The application form, instructions and more information can be downloaded online.

The total time commitment for subcommittee members is estimated at seven in-person days over a four-month period (August through November), as well as additional work time. The review process, qualification for subcommittee membership and timelines can be viewed at the following link.

The application for participation in the subcommittee is July 31. For further information, visit www.nj.gov/education/standards.
